Directions from a ghost

He looked around the white landscape of complete nothingness. Anger peaking in the small boy, he turned around to go back through the door he came in, only to find not a door, but an edge of a forest. Confused he turned back to the white landscape, but he realized it had turned to forest too.
"Nothing stays the same here." Jumping, he turned around to see who had spoken.
A girl was standing there. Her skin was grey and full of cracks, like an old doll that hadn't seen light in years.
"How...how do I get out of here?" he stammered.
Her face sad, she pointed to the left to a trail that led deeper into the forest.
"Its a long dangerous path."
He lifted his head in defiance, and to hide his fear.
"As long as it takes me home. Thanks."
He started down the trail.
"I hope you get home." the girl said as he left. He nodded in agreement. She turned and walked away, whispering enough so he couldnt hear, "If you dont make it home....you'll end up like me."
